John Palatinus,83 is one of the few surviving leaders in the fight for the freedom to disseminate gay-photography and art during the 1950’s and 60’s. He is a legendary photographer from an era now called the Golden Age of Physique Photography. At that time in America, it was illegal to send even semi-nude photographs through the U.S. Mail. From 1954 to 1959, Palatinus worked in his studios in Northern Indiana and New York City, photographing young male body-builders. His photographs were published in numerous body-building magazines of the era, most notably Tomorrow’s Man, a pocket-sized publication featuring males with posing straps or other coverings for their privates. In early 1959 his now classic photographs were driven from the market by zealous US Postal Inspectors aided by the New York Police Department. in highly- publicized raids. All of John’s his cameras, equipment, photographs, negatives, and mailing lists were confiscated and never returned. Now, after more than half a century, his almost forgotten work has been re-discovered, thanks to the work of archivist and curator of vintage physique photography Alan Harmon.

L’EXPOSITION SPECTACULAIRE VIENT ARRIVER Á L’EUROPE

Bien que les images du point de vue actuel agissent de manière inoffensive „« ; la valeur

des photos John Palatinus est spectaculaire. De façon captivante toutefois l’histoire c´est

que derrière les images se cache le dernier protagoniste des MEN PHYSIQUES

homosexuels vivant encore (VINTAGE) .En 1959 une razzia de police et une arrestation

(voir les articles/extrait la traduction)a terminé la première carrière d’Américain John Palantinus, aujourd’hui agé de 81ans.50 ans plus tard ANTEBELLUM la galerie a se

chargé à Los Angeles de la première Exposition des images. La scène américaine

découvre depuis lors les valeur temporaire des images et de l’histoire, une deuxième

exposition d’images à San Francisco a eu déjà lieu. Même les dépenses allemandes des

GQ (voir la presse) faisaient un rapport récemment. Le SERVICEWERK BERLIN

RAZZIA DE LA POLICE contre la bande, qui vend des photographies négligentes d’homme! ! !

La police et les inspecteurs de la poste (remarque: autorité de censure !) ont démantelé un

cercle de pornographie international , qui a colporté des dessins et des images d’hommes

nus ou presque nu parmi presque 100.000 clients en Amérique du Nord et en Europe.

La police estime les revenus par la vente des photos jusqu’à 10.000 U$ par jour .Sept

hommes ont été arrêtés, plus de 120.000 photos, dessins et négatives ont été saisis dans

quatre descentes de police, exécutés par 13 commissaires et 4 inspecteurs de la poste.

Les sept suspects sont accusés de la pornographie.

SPEKTAKULÄRE AUSSTELLUNG KOMMT NACH EUROPA

Wenngleich die Bilder aus heutiger Sicht „harmlos“ wirken; die Aussagekraft der Fotos von

John Palatinus ist spektakulär. Spannend aber die Geschichte, die sich hinter den Bildern

des letzten noch lebenden Protagonisten der schwulen MEN PHYSIQUES (VINTAGE)

Fotografie verbirgt: 1959 beendete eine Razzia und Festnahme (siehe Artikel/Auszug aus

der Übersetzung) die erste Karriere des heute 81jährigen Amerikaners.

Erst fünfzig Jahre später lud die ANTEBELLUM Galerie in Los Angeles zur ersten

Ausstellung der Bilder ein. Seitdem entdeckt die US-Szene den zeitgeschichtlichen

Wert der Bilder und der Geschichte, eine zweite Ausstellung von Bildern in San Francisco

fand bereits statt. Selbst die deutsche Ausgabe der GQ (siehe Presse) berichtete jüngst.

Ring zerschlagen, der Hausieren ging mit liederlichen Zeichnungen und Bildern nackter

Männer unter fast 100.000 Kunden in Nord-Amerika und Europa.

Die Polizei schätzt die Einnahmen durch den Fotoverkauf an Homosexuelle der Bande auf

bis zu 10.000 U$ täglich. Sieben Männer wurden verhaftet, mehr als 120.000 Fotos,

Zeichnungen und Negative wurden beschlagnahmt in vier Razzien, durchgeführt von 13

Even though, from a todays point of view, these pictures seem to be harmless, the

message of John Palatinus photography is very strong. Discover the untold story behind

the work of the last VINTAGE photographer still alive.

A police raid and arrest (see article) finished in 1959 the first carrier of Palatinus. Fifty

years later, now 81years old John, presents his first art show ever at Antebellum Gallery in

Los Angeles raising high interest and sympathies all over. A second show in San Francisco

followed and even Germanys GQ Magazine did cover the story.

Cops Raid Ring Selling Lewd Male Photos

Police and postal inspectors have smashed an international pornography ring that peddled

photos and lewd sketches of nude men to some 100,000 customers throughout North

Amerca and Europe.
Police said the ring averaged $10,000 worth of photo sales a day to homosexuals. Seven

men were arrested and more than 120,000 photos, sketches and negatives were seized in

four raids conducted by 13 detectives and four postal inspectors.

The seven suspects were booked on pornography charges.
